Thank you Peter & kauguy for your comments and suggestions. I

also got a reading list earlier from Orinsdad and will start

doing more reading--thanks for the resources. In addition to

that, I have ordered 2 Natural Hygeine books, a cookbook & 5 back

issues of Natural Science magazine. I became a member and have

already started receiving current issues and I d to

Natural Living magazine and look forward to getting my first

issue. When I do something, I want all the information and

support that I can get. I've also been listening to audio tapes

of a Natural Hygeine conference from 1993, which is very

inspiring.

I got a hold of a book that introduced me to this way of eating

back in 1979 by Joy Gross of Pauling Manor. I had loaned it to

my sister years ago and at my request, she just sent it back to

me. She speaks about the safety of short water fasts at home. I

do think I will start doing some fasts. Since I've had a fairly

healthy diet compared to many Americans and have given up things

like meat, chocolate, soda, caffeine, alchol, and don't smoke, I

believe I have a better chance of not having too drastic of an

effect.

However, I feel like I did have some detox symptoms already just

from giving up all dairy (except a little butter so far). Also,

I'm eating much less and eating definitely has lost its hold on

me. I think I will do some mono meals and do some all juice

days, etc. before trying the water fast.

I am going to have foot surgery in a month. I was wondering if

it would be advisable for me to do a 1 or 2 day water fast then

since I would be laid up in bed for 4 days. However, I realize

that I may have to take some pain medication and that could

counter act any good it would have for me, if not downright be

harmful. I'm thinking that all fruit days might be better. Last

year I had the other foot done and gained 10 pounds. I KNOW that

will not happen to me this time since I've turned my life around

since last year.

Any thoughts on any of this is greatly appreciated. I am glad I

found this mailing list. It makes a big difference being

associated with like-minded individuals. So much in the past, I

have always felt like the odd man out! There are even so many

types of vegetarians that now I would rather be around vegan

types. I hope to find some type of group around the area where I

live. Of course, there is Hipprocrates center in West Palm

Beach, but it appears that there could be some differences as

well. Anyway, since that is what is close, I may check it out.

Thanks again for allowing me to share in this group!

Hi Viveca,

Yesterday I had an abcessed tooth pulled. Not exactly a foot operation, but

along the same lines. The instructions for eating afterward were: eat lightly,

scrambled eggs and cottage cheese are good. I got a laugh out of that. I was

on pain meds just yesterday, and not sure if I needed them but I've never had a

tooth extracted and wasn't sure what I was in for, so I took them. I was fine.

I had smoothies all day until I ate sliced mushrooms and black olives for

dinner. My bleeding stopped fairly early in the day and I felt fine all day,

even as the pain meds wore off, I really wasn't in much pain. Today, the same.

I am not on any meds today and have eaten pretty regularly. My experience is

that if you eat lighter while healing (or not at all?) the healing goes faster.

Hope this helps.
