Guest guest
A fruit is the product of a flower. Seeds are the product of a fruit. A vegetable is the stalk, leaf or root of a plant. rusty - " DReaD DRaKe " <strange_fruit <undisclosed-recipients:> Monday, June 30, 2003 7:46 AM [Raw Food] A question concerning Nuts > I have a big problem with nuts, what are they? with nuts, i'm including > almonds, pistach, walnuts, coconuts, brazil nuts... well, all the nuts. > Are they fruits or seeds? > Many thanks for your answer. > f

For an in-depth look at various kinds of nuts -- processing and consumption -- read Tom Billings' paper, which is posted on several food sites, including here: http://www.living-foods.com/articles/nuts.html - Janet

Guest guest
Okay, then, not to be a pain in the butt, but then what are sunflower seeds? They are the product of a flower, no? Just curious, Cathe
Guest guest
All seeds and nuts are the product of a flower. Some are contained in fruit. Note that peanuts are not nuts but misnamed tubers. Vegetables are not to product of a flower. So cukes and tomatoes and peppers and eggplant etc. are fruits. rusty - " cathe " <cathe <rawfood > Wednesday, July 02, 2003 11:20 AM Re: [Raw Food] A question concerning Nuts > Okay, then, not to be a pain in the butt, but then what are sunflower seeds? " Certain nuts make me break out in hives and others don't. I have not figured out which ones completely. Are there " categories " which are similar in chemical composition? One I know is a problem is pistachios. I think that almonds are okay. Cashews are okay but I believe that they are not really a nut. Anyone know more?
