Shelly[Judith Roney] >> Well hello there neighbor, that really is amazing...Rensselaer is a hop skip & a jump away!!! Actually my husband & I own Crown Computers here on the square...where I slave away 6 days a week...I have been to Rensselaer many many times..in fact I have an Uncle who taught at St.Joe's many many moons ago, he lived down there while he was teaching...and the daylilly farm down there is breathtaking.. I have been vegetarian for 4 years...mostly no dairy or fish either...I have been struggling to get past 75 % raw for weeks now...breakfast & lunch easy..dinner is harder..there are really no excuses, but our lifestyle doesn't help. We are often here till 600: or 7:00 at night. I bring prepared food to the office.. but when we finally do get out of here, my determination has wanned from stress or fatigue..but like I said, I know there are no real excuses..you will make time or effort for what you really believe in, and I am determined to get past 75% raw. I have been " almost " raw for 2 months... I absolutley believe raw is how we should eat..I do believe cooked food IS an addiction...just like people that know smoking is bad for them but can't stop. The farmer's market is open again this season..it is on Main street one directly south of our store..I can look out the door and see it..it is on Saturday mornings..I am going to try to remember to go this Saturday..I went a few weeks ago, but no fruit or veggies yet..if I recall correctly most is locally grown..but I will ask more specifically and find out..I will let you know. There are so few stores to get anything good at..but I have found a few things..there is a little store up here near the old White Hen Pantry, which is now called " The Hen " ..the store is called " Taste of Europe " and they have the most wonderful little packages in the refrigerated section with fresh seaweed in it..it comes with two little packets..one is seasonings and the other is sesame oil..but usually I just eat the seaweed..it is only $1.69 and it is really good..I have only seen this in mail order for a lot more money..this tiny store has lots of unusual vegetable items..and the owners are very sweet & helpful.. There is a new store called Herb Thyme Market Co., which is supposed to have hard to find items..it's 71 merrillville Road in Crown Point. I like Wise Way..they have an interesting " health-food " section...I have also ordered fruit and veggies in bulk from Bakker's Supply in Griffith..I'm sure they are not organic..but they have the biggest & most beautiful carrots I've ever seen...they come in 50 lb. bags...they will deliver to you if your order is over $100.00. I am discouraged by the cost of organically grown produce, and am apalled at the use of chemicals on the regular commercial produce. We have only potted tomatoes, peppers & herbs this year in our " garden " ..next year I'd like to expand.. My goal is to open a Raw restraunt in town here..that way I can be surrounded by good for you food!! I don't know of any around here...I would love to spread " the good news " of rawness.. Sorry to go on & on so much...do you grow any of your own produce? How long have you been raw..are you 100 % ? What do you do when you go out to eat? I usually have a salad..but most places don't have spinach or other dark greens.. Judy
Guest guest
Judy, THIS IS SOOOO GREAT! --- YES WE ARE SOOO CLOSE and I know EXACTLY where you are located. and I want very badly to open a raw restaurant too!!!! I was hoping to do it in Merrillville or Valpo (do u ever go to Hilke's health food store in Valpo??). --- this is awesome!! I have been very high raw 85 to 100% for over a year and I have been 100% raw for the past 108 days :-) I work from home.. I am an author, artist, certified personal trainer, and I am just starting a raw food lifestyle coach business..... also hubby and I are starting our own 'offline' auction house as he just became a licenses auctioneer. So if u are in to auctions u and your husband will have to come sometime. Our first one is going to be at the Grange in Lowell on July 26th I believe (third weekend of July i think...) My web sites are at http://www.rawandjuicy.com http://www.dyingtogetwell.com http://www.michelleah.com (that is my art work -- which occupies my spare time *lol*) http://www.abcinternetmarketing.com and I run a raw food support group and chat room online at http://pub41.ezboard.com/bdepoprovera --- I have over 500 members now!!! so it is getting quite popular -- soooo many wonderful people there. I am absolutely going to have to stop in to see u next time I am in crown point -- my hubby loves going to the antique store there on the square. and we go to a lot of auctions at the catholic church - st matthias when they have them there. I don't go out to eat ;-) --- last time I did hubby, and one of our friends were up in Chicago (suburb of chicago) and we went in to bakers square -- they ate deeeelicious looking meals and i didn't order anything. that was my first time in a restaurant where i didn't order and best yet didn't feel guilty or 'bad' about not ordering. i take food with me everywhere *g* --- when we are gone all day at auction i just pack tons of fruit and make myself a salad. i went raw because i was very, very ill -- it really saved my life as my pain was so bad i was very suicidal -- i wrote the book Dying To Get Well -- which is a step by step detailing of how I got well -- basically going raw and following natural hygiene principles. we have not been to Karyn's yet but it is suppose to be good. it is a raw food restaurant in Chicago. we are hoping to go there sometime next week or so. If I do get in to a situation where i have to go in to a restaurant and i am actually hungry and haven't packed anything for myself i just request things --- i.e. -- a plate of fresh fruit -- or ask if the have certain veggies and ask for them to put them on a plate --- or have them make special salads for me. but really i very rarely go in to a restaurant. SOOOOO GLAD 2 meet u --- and can't wait to meet u in real life. I will email u before i come to crown point. last year we had a really large garden, this year we have had so much going on with so many other 'biz' things our garden is horrible... some tomatoes and cucumbers -- and I have a cherry and a pear tree (just had some cherries off of it today). next year we are going all out though. we have the grocery store pick and save -- which is across from saint joe and bless their hearts they actually have an 'organic' section --- unfortunately i believe i am the only one who buys from it... and actually i don't anymore because everything i have purchased from there has been rotten or moldy --- they just can't move it unfortunately. THIS IS SOOOO GREAT!!! i can't contain myself *g* At 11:35 AM 6/25/2003 -0500, you wrote: > > [Judith Roney] >> JUDY, > > HIYA!!! I'm in Rensselaer Indiana -- only about 20 min. away from u!!! Guest guest
aaaaaghhh!!! I know where the Grange is...we lived in Lowell for 12 years..how very very weird..I started the Lowell garden club back up in 1997..was " president " for 2 years..I wanted to " herbify " everyone and plant trees EVERYWHERE..I was a little bit of a tree hugger, but as the garden club began to grow it became more of a social thing. The wilder thing is I have 3 books to write in " my head " and I just went out to Michael's and bought watercolor paper & supplies..have not painted in ages, but it's time again..what coincidences.. Here is my " master plan " to hang my paintings in our store..most of them would be of local buildings & homes..and we want to gut this place & do food here... I love antiques..we just bought an 1856 home...but time is limited & budget is tight... How are you doing at 100% raw (I'm envious) I did better last night, I had miso soup...but it was cooked..tonight I'll do veggies & hummus dip...and cauliflower w/Indian spices ..do you use a dehydrator? What medium do you work in? What do you write? I want to do a chidren's series based on the " adventures " of our black lab, Annie...we have a chocolate lab too, Beau. I have a serious novel in my head loosley based on my life and a nutrition book. I am all set to go back to college..am registered at PurdueCal..but I have to do mostly online..I'm here 6-7 days a week... I went to the Thyme market store yesterday..they had some neat things..Bible " live " bread and personal care products..I have not been to the store you mentioned in Valpo..but I have enjoyed the beer they make at the Anerdeen brewery in Valpo!!! Sorry to get off the raw subject a little...Judy shelly [shelly] Wednesday, June 25, 2003 3:10 PM rawfood RE: [Raw Food] Looking for raw foodist in Indiana Importance: High Judy, THIS IS SOOOO GREAT! --- YES WE ARE SOOO CLOSE and I know EXACTLY where you are located. and I want very badly to open a raw restaurant too!!!!
