Guest guest
Dear Candace, as far as I understand it, the raw food diet is a detoxifying diet anyway. I would go on it for quite a while before doing any fasting. It may not be the best approach to do detox as fast as you can. After a two week fast you will be so starved that the danger of going back to your " normal " diet is very high. Well, that's what I think anyway, having done a 12 day fast once. Good luck Shanti - <rawfood > <rawfood > Wednesday, May 28, 2003 9:56 AM [Raw Food] Digest Number

" After being a vegan, I decided to get more into the raw/live foods. So, just for the past few days I've had raw and live foods only (well, with the exception of a cup of coffee now and then). I can see and feel differences already. I feel lighter, I've lost a couple of pounds, my nose is running to beat the band, and I don't feel so bogged down. But I'm lovin' this. I'm also juicing and today will be our first home-raised wheatgrass juice. I'm also going to be planting trays of buckwheat and sunflower, along with my regular jars of sprouts. I'm so psyched. I even had a breakfast of fruits, nuts and seeds (mango and orange with almonds, walnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds). I was always afraid of having such a high sugar breakfast. But I'm absolutely fine! I'm usually wiped out after cooked oatmeal, but who knew fresh fruit wouldn't do anything to me. As far as a " fast " goes, I wouldn't even attempt anything very spartan until I've done a few weeks - or even a few months - of what I'm doing now. I need to stabilize my blood sugar, my menu, my refrigerator, etc., and get my body used to all this. Then, maybe, I might go on one of " those " fasts. But unless I really, really, really have a specific reason for serious fasting, I think this detox diet/lifestyle of raw/live foods will probably do the trick. Just over a longer period of time. Guest guest
Candace, For what it is worth, I take the contrarian point of view. Having started 100% raw after a longish water fast I had none of the problems of transition. No cravings or required discipline or adverse symptoms. It may be a matter of each to his own.
