Guest guest
Hi all I have been 100% Raw since December and am still having a hard time with my blood sugar. I am not diabetic but suffering from GI related problems that is why I went RAW to hopefully reverse Leaky Gut and Malabsorption. My blood sugar will drop to 58 and upon waking up in the morning it has tested at 70. Normal ranges can be from 70-120 I believe but a lot of the times if I don't eat on time and I don't even know that I'm hungry until it's too late sometimes it will drop below 70 and my machine will even ask if I need a snack. I then will get all the symptoms ranging from shakiness, nausea, dry heaves, cloudy mind, fatigue and irritable bowel. Will the raw diet eventually reverse this problem or will it be something I will have to deal with from now on? I'm currently seriously underweight from my illness as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I tell you it sure is hard watching friends and family devouring their chicken and cooked foods sometimes but I just want to get well so I won't even touch those foods anymore no matter how good it smells and looks. Guest guest
Besides my story being very similar to Shelly's(what a grreat letter)...(at 6' my weight dropping to 123# and now being 180# ) and my path of recovery much the same...Wanted to put emphasis on your environment....you MUST do all that you can to put yourself into a supportive, positive, peaceful, with clean air, water, sun....etc...oh...and don't watch tv! ....Maybe read some books on Natural Hygiene by Herbert Shelton when your energy allows.... Greg Shelly Keck-Borsits <shelly wrote:Karean, Hi dear. I had leaky gut and malabsorption very severely.. like you I had 'hypoglycemia' symptoms.. this was actually detox that I was experiencing. I found that eating slices of avocado would help even out my blood sugar levels.. I don't know this by the fact that I 'tested' my levels, but just by how I felt.. shakiness, coldness, lightheadedness... etc. I found myself drawn to avocados so I would eat them and I would feel better. I read later that avocado actually helps even out blood sugar levels ?? I think I read this in Kordich's book on juicing - but I could be wrong dear. I apologize I've read so much that I can't keep everything stratight. The raw diet has been the ultimate key in my reversal of my disease (Fibromyalgia)... I don't like giving it a 'name' because all disease is caused by the same thing, auto-intoxication... it is just that conventional medicine gives it a name and that is how most people related to disease unfortunately - by name. However, the raw food diet alone was not responsible for the reversal of my disease. I had to make not only strict dietary changes, but lifestyle changes as well. I make it a point to go outside every single day for at least 1/2 hour to get fresh air and sunshine. I started this in the midst of winter so I know that somedays it can be a huge pain in the butt (if it seems tooooo cold) and a little uncomfortable but I buttoned up. You will find yourself soon craving the outdoors. I know most people say they get fresh air every day but the wide majority spend 90% of their lives indoors... doing nothing other than going from home, to car, to office, and back inside again. So fresh air and sunshine is so extremely important. I also found that I had to get sufficient rest.. both MENTAL and physical. This for me meant taking time off from my web sites, my work, social activities, etc. I had to learn to 'listen' to what my body was telling me. If it said 'nap'.. I would nap. When it say 'go to bed' I went to bed. I had a huge problem with insomnia.. I suffered with it for years and now this too is gone. I would get a lot of rest through my yoga too - even though my physcial body is actually in movement my mind is at peace and at rest with yoga so that helped me tremendously too. I have also had to keep up with exercise every day. With my symptoms my muscles for lack of a better term were 'hardened'.. exercise was very painful and had me in tears often.. but I had to just concentrate on doing stretching (yoga/pilates) and doing what my body could do that day and sticking to it. Walking also caused me tears too but I made a point to walk around our property every day. I also drink sufficient amount of water daily. There is argument that when you are on raw food you simply do not need as much water as the eight, 8 oz glasses of water a day. While it is true that when we are on raw food we do take in a great amount of water from them, I found in the beginning that also drinking that much pure water was of great help to me. For one, in the beginning I was not getting all the nutrients from my fruits and vegetables as I was so enervated and suffering from malabsorption. Additionally, I found that drinking at least eight, 8 oz glasses of water a day helped me through the healing crises.. my higher water intake helped dilute the toxins as they were brought in to circulation and moving through my body for elimination. As you become healthier you will find that your need for water will go down... but I still drink the equivolent to 4 or 5 eight oz glasses of water a day. If you feel thirsty make sure you drink only pure water.. distilled or even reverse osmosis I was told is close to distilled. I also had to do a lot of forgiving... anyone and everything that I held negative thoughts against I let them go. I found you just can't get well if you are holding on to any anger. Another thing I had to do was to stay away from negative people... I have a couple of friends who are just so negative (because they are ill of course) but they just don't see it. They are the type of people who you are in a great mood and you get off the phone with them and then you feel sad or depressed or 'down'... I had to stay away from those people. I had to do a lot of 'unlearning' too. I was taught from the time I was a little girl that I needed to eat meat for protein, and that the 'doctor knows best'. I had a lot of learning to do. Through knowledge you really do gain power. I had to learn that disease is curable.. I had to learn that drugs ONLY suppress pain, never cure it. I had to learn that the body is the only thing that can CURE as it has the powers to heal itself, but if and only if we set for it the proper conditions. I had to learn that my symptoms were actually just 'detox'. i.e.: fevers are our bodies way to 'burn out toxins', acne is our bodies way of eliminating toxins through the skin, I had to learn a cold is an effort of the body to eliminate toxins from the cavities of the head, I had a lot of 'relearning' to do. Everything I had been taught about symptoms, about disease, about nutrition was wrong. I did a lot of reading and that is my biggest suggestion to everyone who is sick.. read, read, read. One of the first books I read was Arnold Ehret's The Mucusless Diet Healing System. I highly recommend it. Some people say what he teaches is to strict, it isn't. I also had to learn that it was only conventional medicine (rx drugs and surgeries) that actually stop natures healing process... but that homeopathic and naturopathic 'therapies' as well. I had ran the gamut in both conventional medicine and alternative medicine. Conventional medicine failed so I went the alternative route.. and I got LOST in a maze of alternative therapies -- there too NOTHING worked. I found this out through EXPERIENCE.. then when I read things that actually backed up what I had KNOWN first hand was true... I started learning the truth. It has saved my life. I don't know where you are in all of this - in regards to your opinions on medicine, alternative therapies, supplementation via vitamins, herbal concoctions, etc. but I finally learned WHY these things could never cure me.. because only our bodies can cure disease.. no magic pills, no surgeries, nothing else has the ability to regenerate, repair and reverse disease other than our body --- but again only if we set for it the proper conditions... that is why I didn't get well immediately with the dietary change, I had to change many other things too. It was a whole body and life makeover ;-) I can totally relate dear to the challenges of being around others when they are eating. In the beginning that was simply too much for me so I had to remove myself from that too. I have found that to reverse my disease I had to go through a complete lifestyle makeover.. not just a dietary one. I believe in the power of raw food tremendously, however I know that if I was also not going outdoors on a daily basis, not getting my fresh and sunshine.. not getting my excercise (so good for our lymphatic systems), not getting the rest my body needs both physically and mentally.. even spiritually, not getting my water intake, etc. We really have to make it a point to give our body the proper conditions to heal itself. It does take more than just dietary change to CURE. Only our bodies can cure but we must set for it all of the proper conditions to do so... so keep your chin up dear! As long as you take care of your body on all aspects, it will take care of you. best wishes!! *big hugs* Shelly At 03:54 AM 3/31/2003 +0000, you wrote: > > Hi all I have been 100% Raw since December and > am still having a hard time with my blood sugar. > > I am not diabetic but suffering from GI related > problems that is why I went RAW to hopefully reverse > Leaky Gut and Malabsorption. > > My blood sugar will drop to 58 and upon waking up > in the morning it has tested at 70. > > Normal ranges can be from 70-120 I believe but a lot > of the times if I don't eat on time and I don't even > know that I'm hungry until it's too late sometimes it > will drop below 70 and my machine will even ask if I need > a snack. > > I then will get all the symptoms ranging from shakiness, nausea, > dry heaves, cloudy mind, fatigue and irritable bowel. > > Will the raw diet eventually reverse this problem or will it > be something I will have to deal with from now on? > > I'm currently seriously underweight from my illness as well. > > Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I just want to thank everyone that responded to my post and especially Shelly for sharing such a great story! Thank you also to Greg and Michele for emailing me privately as well and answering my questions. You guys are the best and I feel a lot better with continuing on and altering my diet slightly to include some more greens and nuts and seeds. I will keep going and pray my body is just de-toxing still from years of poor health and poor dietary habits. Love and Bless to you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart! Guest guest
You are very welcome dear!! Remember disease is actually your bodies way of protecting you... disease forms as a result of your body attacking toxins. You are on the right track dear and depending on how you decide to detox, i.e.: supervised water only fasting, raw food diet, or vegan diet, etc., it can be anywhere from 30 days to 2 years for complete detox. Just keep on following this path dear.. it is the right one and you are well on your way! :-) Shelly At 09:07 PM 3/31/2003 +0000, you wrote: > > I just want to thank everyone that responded to my post and > especially Shelly for sharing such a great story! Guest guest
> Greg, *blushing* thank-you!!! -- and you hit on something very important that I missed.. surrounding yourself with positive energy and not watching t.v. BINGO!!! I watch at night with my husband occassionally.. but not that much. And keep TONS of books on hand on natural hygiene, shelton's, ehret, books on raw food.. I keep these by my side constantly. p.s. - I am currently writing a book that is a compilation of individuals from all over the world who have also cured themselves of illness and disease via natural hygiene principles and a raw food diet -- If anyone here in this group is interested and has a story that they would like to be featured in my book please just send me an email at shelly and I will give you all of the details. best wishes!
