Avacado is an excellent source of the essential fatty acid Omega 6. This is

good up to a point, but the body requiries a 3 - 1 ratio of Omega 3 to Omega

6, and this would require adding quite a bit of Omega 3 and in a raw food

diet the best source is fresly ground flax seed. (use a coffe grinder and

just 'bump' it a few times to grind but not build heat). You may also sprout

the flax but this is not that easy as the seed tends to float and keep out

the moisture for a time. But it's worth it if you develop the

technique.Another source is Raw egg yolks. If you get fresh organic free

range eggs, there is very little likelihood of salmonella. But if you are

vegan, the flax is the way to go. Omega 3 is especially important for brain

function, healty skin, insulin regulation and for prevention of cardio

vascular problems.

Beer is a ok but remebretr the fat you put on is by the insulin converting

the carbs to fat and this is not the way to add fat. Yoiu should add fat by

eating fats. Sprouts are a good source of low levels of healthful fats.

Olives are another good source of mono unsaturated fat but preserved olives

are loaded with salts and nitrates and a whole bunch of junk. As for as

preservess of any kind I aways wonder, " If the bugs won't eat it why should

I " .

[Raw Food] Re: getting thinner, afraid to vanish ...

Viraj,

The same thing happened to me when I went raw. It's a great diet to

lose weight, right?

In 4-6 months I went from 205 to 165 lbs and at 6'4 " that put me in

the " bean pole " category. It was shocking to me because I didn't

think I had any weight to lose!

>From what I know, when you eat and live correctly your body will do

the right thing even though you don't think so. If you are heavy you

will lose weight and if you are thin you will gain weight. In your

case you can expect your body to lose all the excess fat and toxins

it has before you finally level off and stop losing weight. Then as

you continue you will slowly put weight back on. The right thing to

do is to exercise as you put the weight slowly back on so it is in

the form of muscle rather than fat.

Since hitting a low of 165 lbs I am now back up to 190 after 3 years.

I don't want to put on any more weight unless it is muscle developed

through exercise and weight lifting.

I recommend the bananas and haas avocadoes and perhaps a good bottle

of imported beer once in a while :^>

Regards,

Orionsdad

Rusty,

As said before, all methods I have come across for curing olives at

least involve throwing hot water over them! David Wolfe writes about the

wonders of sun dried olives but where in Brussels do you find them?

There are very salty olives from Greece about that some vendors tell me

are " sun cured " . That leads to the added risk of getting duff salt.

Beer I understand is pasteurized except for real ale.

Sorry to be so Europeanly negative

Peter
