Hi- I just joined, and Peter, I am interested in what you posted that

its largely grains that pours the mucos dodwn the nose. Here I've always

thought it was diary alone that was responsible for that. Now I have to

worry about grains too? So if I don't consume any grains, what makes up

for not having whole raw grains?? Do grain sprouts also do this?? I'm

just now going back to raw food diet, and before, I ate soaked grains or

sprouts...Mucous is a problem with me. Thankyou for any light you can

shed on this.

Elaine,

It is simple really. You just eat fruit instead.

In my case I buy 4 kilo bags of apples for example.

Be careful of giving up too much all at once.

You might detoxify too fast. Best to take a few weeks

to gradually phase out the old poisons. Mouth sores and mouth

biting are a sign of detoxification.

Other have written in books of items to avoid but here are

a few sneaky ones that have got on my nerves.

Olive oil but all vegetable oils that have been extracted

from their source.

Brazil nuts unless I remove the shells

Mung beans

Excess citrus fruit in a cold climate

Garlic

Onions

Hope this helps and if you need any explanation, just ask.

Peter

Perhaps I should introduce myself. My name is Elaine, and I've been a

raw foodist before, enjoying every minute of it. I was anemic due to

problems before I went raw, so that really had to be addressed...now way

down the road 3 years later, I have gone back to raw. I simply cannot go

with my dh SAD way of eating any longer. Its more like a runamuck

childish way of eating anything you see that you think tastes good with

no thought about health whatsoever.

When I was on raw food groups before, I never once heard anyone saying

that raw soaked or sprouted grains were a problem for them. Presently, I

am about 85% raw. I'm wearing out the lawn between the back door and the

papaya trees(living in the south can be a good thing)

Peter, I am curious - especially since I have a lot of seeds for making

sprouts, have you heard of others who had a problem with sprouted grains

as well? Is this people who are already are allergic to grains??? Are

you allergic to grains? Sorry for the questions, I just want to know,

since I'd never heard it before. I've always been taught that mucos came

from dairy. Can you tell I really don't want to toss out the seeds????

Yes, I have majored on green leafies, apples, cabbage, some beets, green

salad and carrots. I drink Neem tea, Fenugreek tea, Rosemary tea, and

Sage tea sweetened with Stevia, which is a tonic as well as a sweetener.

Lots of water also. To me this is about the cheapest, simplist way to

go. Today is payday, and I'm out of everything except apples and pink

grapefruit.

If I'm allergic to anything, I don't know it-maybe have not recognized

it. Mouth biting is a sign of detoxification?? I didn't know that

either. How interesting. Olive oil bothers you???? What about raw olive

oil that has not been heated? I've seen it, its too expensive for me.

Have a wonderful day.

Thanks Elaine,

For me the whole business of eating better has been a story of

shifting targets or as the English love to say " moving goal posts " .

This means. being English, that I could change my ideas and there is a

certainty of one that I have neither reached perfection nor will not

learn

more than is state3d below. In addition I am not a medic but merely a

practicing raw foodist.

Thus I may end with more questions than I give answers.

Sprouting has gone down in my estimation of what is good eating

practice. Any seed can be sprouted. Terminology leads us to split

seeds into grains, nuts and pulses, at least. Grains have had the

klobber - they were introduced into the human diet only yesterday in the

scale of time - simply too easy to reject as wholesome food - whole

grain or not - sorry AMA. Nuts and pulses have received varying press

according to enzyme theses and their benefit to consumption. It leaves

me wondering at what point does a grain become a pulse or a nut. Years

ago in a Company manual, the Company of in which I served, it was

written, " Since it cannot be decided at what point a shrimp becomes a

prawn only prawn cocktails will be served. " Pulses have another term in

other dialect of our rich language - it has just slipped my pen in

" cross pond dialect " . The upshot of all this is that I look with a

weather eye upon the whole business of sprouting anything - grains, nuts

and pulses. That means I expect movement upon my attitude to this

subject especially in this forum where simple folk, such as myself,

should have their fears and doubts grounded.

Now we come to anther piece of shifting ground. Things completely fresh

seem, to me, to have merit to me above those with better pretensions.

Thus anything in season counts above anything organic and less than

fresh. I speculate that a fresh nut in season has substance way beyond a

dried out storage repository. Dare I even speculate that laboratory

experiments conducted upon fresh anything as against acceptable values

were considered as relevant. To me, fresh juicy chemical reared food

takes precedence over days old organic. I do not deny that fresh juicy

organic is tops - frankly I wobble every time I get the like. Fresh

merits paranoia - the distinction between a plant hybridized by nature

and that by some indifferent seed producer seems fuzzy. A tomato grown

in a green house on water and chemicals seems beyond redemption; no

matter what any dietician says. Fruit and vegetables put though the

juicer or slicer get a life sentence of about 15 minutes at best in most

experts view. Bang an apple and in about that 15 minutes it browns and

putrified apple is the result. Do that in the stomach and the same

chemistry is not applicable. Why so?

Organic fresh hits the spot - but how often can you get it? Here in

Brussels

the answer is quite often.

Roots, as in beetroot, are another eye catching point. I bought a

beetroot then chopped it up and ate it. It changed the colour of my shit

to the point where I thought that this stuff had not even started to be

digested. It beefed up my skepticism of the value of roots. I do not

know the answers.

Then I come to the pouring of hot water upon any kind of leaves. My

background of bad eating behaviour is sufficient to cause anaemia but in

in the rebound, there is not one palliative in the herbal dictionary

which has the slightest appeal to me. That could change if I were

confronted by some life threatening situation. Your persuit of herbal

palliative seems worthy of revision.

Finally on economy raw foodists are blessed. Supermarkets pay premiums

to get shelf-life length. The fellows I buy from have about one or two

days to go. That leaves me with low priced, ripe fruit and vegetables

which probably has not seen the inside of a supermarket gas chambre.

There may be items on this post which extend beyond the scope of the

forum, in which case please respond directly.

All joy,

Peter Gardiner
