You may want to reconsider nutritional yeast. For

one thing I don't think it is raw. I read an article

on nutritional yeast and it was real bad news. I

personally was never able to digest it anyway. It made me

sick whenever I ate it. Actually I think it might be

quite toxic in certain respects.

Again the

preoccupation with protein. Why not worry as much about how

much zinc you have in your body, or iron for that

matter? What makes anyone think that protein is more

important than other nutrients?

First of all when

you eat raw foods you are getting the amino acids

uncooked. That means the proteins are totally available for

quick absorption by the body. When a person is eating a

turkey for example, they might have to eat 10 times the

amount of protein because most of the protein is

unusable after cooking. It becomes coagulated and

virtually unusable by the body. Then whatever protein the

body can salvage takes lots of work because we have to

now first break down the complex protein to amino

acids. Personally I think raw foodists have much more

available or useable protein in their bodies than cooked

food eaters.

Keep this in mind; there is

virtually no need to supplement protein on the raw diet.

Only if you are a body builder might you need to

slightly increase your protein content. That can easily be

done by adding extra nuts and seeds to your diet.

I've met hundreds of raw foodists. All the ones I know

do not worry anymore about protein consumption. I

have met people with 40, 35, 30, 20, or more years of

living on a vegetarian raw food diet. They are doing

just fine. A good friend of mine is a senior citizen

and has been 100% raw for the last 3 years and he

eats mostly fruit, with some greens and some nuts. I

think he eats much less nuts than I do and he is doing

fabulously.

I think it's our meat and dairy industry

programming why people are so concerned about protein. How do

gorillas get all their protein? They eat mostly leafy

greens and fruits. Did you know they are pound for pound

at least 10 times as strong as humans? I don't think

they worry about their protein consumption.

We

are simply worrying because someone who wants to sell

us more animal protein has put these unneccesary

concerns in our minds. I challenge anyone to simply

replace their cooked food calories with an equal amount

of calories from raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and

seeds with a varied diet. By doing this you'll get all

the protein you need. The key is to eat enough

calories. Most new raw foodists don't eat nearly enough raw

foods to make the transition.

Remember my

friend's girlfriend Nini, who has eaten nothing but grapes

for the last 10 years. If she could get enough

protein eating only every variety of grape, then I think

everyone else shold be just fine.

Roger Haeske
