Guest guest
Are you getting enough calories? I used to feel hungry on the raw diet as well. But you've got to realize that most vegetables don't have enough calories in them to sustain you. You could never get enough calories on celery, cucumbers, and salad greens. 90% of our caloric dietary needs are for sugars.

You'll also feel full if you eat enough fat. The problem with that is you'll be slow moving because your body will spend so much time digesting. So the key is to eat lots of calories from fruits. If you were eating bread or grains before then you were getting lots of sugar calories in the form of complex carbs. Now you simply switch from complex carbs to simple carbs by eating fruit. Bananas are a calorie rich food. I can eat up to 20 per day. It all depends how many calories you would normally need.

If you are craving some kind of sweet cooked food like cookies or even bread it means you are not getting enough calories from sweet fruit. Remember the body needs lots of natural sugars to function properly.

You have to count calories. Try to figure out how many calories you were eating on your cooked diet and then get at least the same amount from the raw foods. If you were eating 2,500 calories per day before then do the same with raw or eat even more. It won't make you fat anyway. Eating bananas is the easiest way to get the calories you need to fuel your body.

Good Luck, Roger Haeske

P.S. Guest guest
Very interesting. I counted the transition to raw foods in months rather than days as you seem to. It could be you will get there in weeks especially with the excellent counsel others are giving

PG
Guest guest
Carol,

I had pretty much the same experience as you. I stuck with close to 100% raw for about 5 days and then gave in to the cravings to eat cooked food. But since then, I've been almost entirely raw sunup to sundown, and only eaten cooked foods at night. It's certainly easier for me to do this now than it was prior to attempting 100% raw. So its a step in the right direction.

I think Roger's also correct in his post in that the cravings could be from not getting enough total calories. I found I could pack a huge bowl of spinach, and sit there and chomp on it for 40 minutes. But I estimate the calories only about maybe 200. It did help to include 2 or 3 avacadoes and olives, etc.

I also found my need for water diminished from about 2 quarts per day to half or less when 100% raw.
