Guest guest
I was wondering if frozen fruit was raw. I know if you cook food over 106 or so degrees you destroy valuable enzymes and nutrients but what about frozen food? Do nutrients get distroyed when you freeze them at a certian temperature? I eat a lot of frozen fruit in the winter( i let it thaw then eat it) because there are not a lot of organic fruit in season where i live in Colorado in the winter, lol! With frozen fruit I am able to eat out of season fruit that is organic( peaches and strawberries) All the other fresh(non frozen) fruit in the stores are non organic and grown conventional. I try an stay away from non organic food as much as possible.

So i am just wondering if frozen fruit it considered raw. I hope it is because I love it!

Have a fruitfull day,

Jamie
Guest guest
Hi Jamie,

I'm afraid to say that frozen food is not particularly nutritious, even if it is classed as 'raw'. The cell walls are often broken, as you can tell when you open a packet of frozen peas for instance. This means a desruction of the cellular structure of the food and a denaturing of its nutrients. Having said this, there are foods which do freeze well such as fat foods like nuts and seeds. In general it seems that the more fat content in the food, the better it will freeze and not denature.

Fruitfully,
Gina
