Guest guest
Doug,

After a day of not eating five or six citrus fruits, I am feeling warmer and more energetic. Such is hardly an objective test but time will tell. I now think that quantity has been my largest error. The right foods need to be taken in the right measure.

Sitting at a table eating a pound of spinach with a knife and fork looks outright loopy to your average SADer. It calls to mind the perfect shape of the hands and jaws for folding and munching leaves.

On avocados I find that at the city's main vegetable market I can get them in quantity for about 15% of the retail price which tends to be steep.

Roger's site is an encouragement. Dare I say that David Wolfe is a younish man. Being in my fifties I have a lifetime of unhealthy living to tidy up and the recovery rate is slower. David Wolfe who appears to be in his twenties has a much faster built-in recovery mechanism. In our twenties, recovery from drinking a bottle of whisky in an evening was no big deal. Now two glasses of whisky would be more than I would contemplate. In fact I never drink it - three glasses of wine are more than enough. A young body will extract a lot more out of the same food. I think also that as the transition into the raw food diet evolves, the food processing of our bodies alters. Thus things that did not work before start to kick in.

Thus extra circumspection is required for the more advanced in age. The transition period must be longer and mistakes and deviations are punished the harder. Wolfe speaks of going for a week on melons. I am still far from such antics. On the bright side, I am slowly pulling uphill and that a huge reward.

Enough

Peter
