Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd introduce

myself now that I've officially entered the group. Spent

the last 2 weeks reading ALL 1400 posts--pretty

intense introduction to the raw concept! I'm still

sorting through the many conflicting reactions I've had

to the various statements about this diet, but I

have enjoyed the reading immensely.

My original

reason for coming to this group was because I went to a

raw-foods restaurant near my house and it was DELICIOUS. I

thought it was just a form of cuisine, not a health

choice/way of life. So I came here hoping to bag some

recipes and be on my way. Part of me was a bit

disappointed that the emphasis wasn't on taste, though I

appreciated some who said that plain food becomes more

tasty--as long as eating is still enjoyable. I wouldn't say

I " live to eat " (in the disdainful words of some

here) but it is one of the more joyful activities of

life, especially when I realized that healthy food

could be more delicious than junk.

I went vegan

cold turkey almost 8 years ago to the day and have not

eaten meat voluntarily since then (it got stuck in an

eggroll from time to time). When I eat out I don't make a

fuss about the ingredients of things--as long as

they're veggie, I'll ignore the possibilities of egg,

butter or milk in them. But at home I cook 100% vegan

and love it.

When I am 100% vegan (no shady

restaurant food) and working out 3-6 days a week, I'm

invincible. I get about 1-2 colds a year and I can always

attribute it to lack of exercise, or occasionally stress.

So I don't really see a health need to go raw.

However, I like rawfoodrules' advice to start

incorporating raw food into your regular diet, just to see what

it feels like. That I will definitely do, as I

rarely eat anything raw. (You could call me a 99-100%

cookedie right now.)

This is getting long so I'll

just say I look forward to belonging to this

discussion group, as long as you can welcome an infidel into

your circle. :)

thanks,
Carol
