Guest guest
& gt; & gt; & gt;Omega fatty acids and iodine are not found in plants, and not much in land-meat, only in sea food.

The article you linked to does not say this. There are two essential fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6! Both are found in plant foods such as flax seeds, the richest source, and walnuts as well as various other plant foods. There are other fatty acids in fish, EPA and DHA, but they are not essential. Read Jeff N's aka ChefJeff's article on this.
<a href=http://www.living-foods.com/board/read.php?f=1 & i=18609 & t=18606 target=new>http://www.living-foods.com/board/read.php?f=1 & i=18609 & t=18606

Iodine is found in vegetables although can be low if the soil is iodine deficient.

& gt; & gt; & gt;Speaking of supplements, other important items not found in any diet are CoEnzyme Q10, Alpha Lipoic Acid, & Acetyl Carnitine (for mitochondrial preservation) Acetyl Cysteine, the body's DNA-repair enzyme

Coenzyeme Q10 is produced by the body and is also found in raw plant foods. It is destroyed by cooking.

About lipoic acid my nutrition textbook says " it has not yet been demonstated to be essential in animals or humans " .

Even the American Dietetic Association says that plants contain all required nutrients except vitamin B12, which is the only thing vegans 'need' to supplement. I'm surprised you didn't mention that.

Rawfood rules, the reason why we need what is in particular foods is because over millions of years our nutrient requirements have evolved based on these foods. There is no essential nutrients that are not supplied in foods.

& gt; & gt; & gt;Those of you who don't believe in pills can go ahead and die decades sooner than necessary, of the universally programmed disease of old-age, if being 'natural' is your fetish.

There are various concerns about possible health risks of taking isolated nutrients and therefore supplemets should be minimized. The best thing to do is to get all nutrients from foods. If you can not eat adequate amounts of veggies to get good nutrition then juicing vegetables such as dark leafy greens is a much better answer than taking suypplements.

I have to comment that it seems that most raw vegans are not getting enough of various things. EFA's are often lacking as is B12 and various minerals and vitamins.

Blake
