Guest guest
I love the feistiness of this group lately…

I wanted to comment on this “raw women don’t need to menstruate” theme. I am assuming that Victoras Kulvinskas is a man… and I would feel concerned taking the advice of a man on any issue regarding my body and its processes. I am not necessarily speaking from a feminist point of view here. It is my understanding that menstruation is the process of breaking down the uterus lining that is built up to support a fertilized egg. If no egg gets fertilized, the uterus lining breaks down – menstruation. I would be concerned if my body quit that cycle. I can believe that being raw may ease some of the discomforts associated with being toxic and menstruating, but it seems counter intuitive that being raw would stop the uterus from it’s monthly rhythms. If the uterus doesn’t prepare for pregnancy… raw foodist couldn’t procreate. Bad news.

One more point on this subject. Kauguy mentions that women who stop menstruating feel ‘empowered’. Again, I am wondering what sort of MENtality this is coming from. Menstruation is a very empowered time… a sacred time in many cultures. A time of divination and connection. A woman’s attunement to the cycles of the moon. It is our modern western culture that has turned it into a ‘nuisance’.
Guest guest
Dear Kippi,

I love the feistiness of the group as well.

And the power of women has been seen in menstruation, particularly the power to produce new life. We now know that men and women contribute equally to conception but unequally to gestation except men provide resources.

We tried to bring menstruation out into the open so it became a normal topic of conversation between men and women. But it didn't work. It wasn't just men but women did not want to let people know when they were menstruating. So it remains a social secret and we can 'empower' women perennially by revealing the 'secret'.
Guest guest
Victoras Kulvinskas is a man. You are prejudging him. Victoras is one of the profits of the 'modern ' raw food movement. His book contains no advice.

I did not say " women who stop menstruating feel empowered " . I said a woman who read this section of his book would " feel empowered " .

Your post reads as if I am trying to stop women from menustrating. Or that there is a choice in the matter. There is no choice, most raw women stop menustrating. It is not my fault.

The title of this secton in the book is; " Biological Superiority of Woman "

I am not a sexist---------yet.

Doug
