Guest guest
There's lots of discussion about " detoxing " . I think the basic premise is that when one switches from a toxic lifestyle to non-toxic that the body switches actions from defensive - neutralizing toxic substance - to offensive - getting rid of accumulated toxins.

It's been asserted here that the process can take anywhere from several days to months and even years. With respect to toxic eating habits, there is a " science " called trophology (I may have slightly misspelled this) or " food combining " . Basically it asserts that the typical SAD diet combines too many foods at each meal and therefore the body cannot properly digest it all. The theory suggests each food digests best when there are optimum conditions of the right enzymes being secreted by the body in the correct acidic environment. Since meat requires certain enzymes (sorry I don't have the names in front of me) in an acidic environment, and carbohydrate-based foods require different enzymes in less acidic environment, if you consume all in every meal you don't digest any of them optimally and this also increases toxicity.

Therefore the best course of action is to only consume one food at each meal or, secondbest, consume only the same foodtypes at one setting. The cardinal rule: Don't mix high-proteins with high-carbs at the same meal. No meat and potatoes! Obviously, anyone on meat-free raw diet is way ahead in this game

However, if you've lived a lifestyle of toxicity with improper food combining, your colon - in all its infinite wisdom - protected your body by releasing mucous to prevent the toxic putrifying food remnants from being absorbed back into the bloodstream via the colon. Over the years, these mucous layers continue to build up and be trapped with remnants of improperly digested food. Even when you switch to good diet it may take an extremely long time to get rid of this buildup.

The answer: some form of fasting and or colonic irrigation. I've seen documentation that many people in 30's or older will release mucous ropes and hard rubber-like products from their colons. The most expeditious way to achieve this is with 7 day " fasts " where you consume almost nothing but finely ground psylium husk combined with once or twice daily colonics or colemas. The psylium acts like a broom and a few days into this the body begins shedding the layers of mucous. It is recommended to repeat the 7 day process several times the first year to cleanse the system. I made it through 5 days on one of these fasts and can attest to the secretion of jelly fish-like mucous strings. Since I'm not 100% raw I find it hard to fast and unfortunately did not repeat the process enough to get rid of any real ugly stuff. But I belive continued repeats of this would produce some scary stuff.

I hope this provides some useful starting information to those posters who occasionally ask about colon cleansing. I personally think that there is marginal benefit to one-off colonics and, if you're going to bother, you should do the 7 day ones. If the process is too dirty for you, fix your diet anyway and with 100% raw your body will probably eliminate much of this filth for you anyway - the question is how long it will take.
