Guest guest
Hi.

I'm just kind of snooping around more than anything right now.

Because I'm friends with various people whose religion recommends (but not required) they become raw foodists in being guided by nature's laws, I've kind of had some exposure to it.

I tend to be someone who is sick a lot... so a friend who is a raw foodist and another in the group have both been urging me to try it.

I tell you this mainly as a disclaimer.... maybe to make my questions sound a bit less silly!

Honestly, things like juicers and sprouting and that sort of thing is a different planet to me. I live on things like cans of ravioli, boxes of mac and cheese, and frozen dinners. So there is a heck of a lot of space between me and most of you I'm sure! LOL! Which is part of why I'm writing this.

I guess my biggest question is basically along the lines of asking how difficult it is to do if you know very little about fruits and veggies.

I like fruits ok... but don't know many of them. Just the basics... apple banana orange etc. Same with veggies. Avacados are about as far towards odd as I know... and I don't particularly like most veggies. I'm one of the people who usually only eat salad deep enough in ranch dressing that you can't see the green.

I mean, when I consider it practically, about what I can see myself doing is eating apples, bananas, avacados, mushrooms, and cans of black olives. I like cashews roasted, but I can't imagine them raw if the taste changes as much as peanuts do between roasted and raw.

I guess I'm just a picky eater when it comes to raw foods. But something that narrow sounds like it couldn't be very balanced... not to mention not a lot of variety would make it get old fast... but to be realistic if I don't like the taste of the things I am eating I'm probably going to ditch the whole thing when it gets to the tough times.

I could try new stuff, but I would not have the foggiest idea what to do with a mango if you handed me one, nor would I have any clue what one even looked like. If I figured out what parts I was and was not supposed to eat, and did happen to like it, I probably wouldn't ever manage to track down another one.

So basically my questions are whether I'm a lost cause on this... or if it can be done that narrowly...

And a silly question I have just been wondering... is peanut butter a raw food? I remember seeing on an infomercial or some other thing once where someone was making it with a food processor or something and raving about making hers with no sugar. Does it have other stuff in it to make it non-raw or is it basically just mashed up peanuts? That might make celery edible... and make the apples more interesting....
