Guest guest
About 21 years ago the Conservative govenment took over running this country, they were in power for 18 years and were cutting government expenditure like anything, that included education. The school meals service declined drastically, nutrition of any kind went by the board. As a result we have a greater culture of children eating chips and burgers and other similar things for lunch. The new government has only had 3 years to try and turn the clock back to any semblance of a better diet, this free fresh fruit is a much better idea than the previous milk they used to get. We have to give them credit for starting out with the right ideas.
Education was starved with cash and the teachers were expected to take bigger classes, less marking time more paper work and buildings were left to rot too. Fresh fruit every day is a good START. I hope that explains the situation
Teri. Chris .
Guest guest
I agree, getting fresh fruit everyday is a good start, but why are they gonna wait until 2004 to implement this first step?

Anyway, if I had kids, I'd make it a point to pack their lunches every morning. That way I'd know what they were eating and not have to rely on the deficient school lunch programs to feed my children. I wish more parents would do this for their kids. Guest guest
Hi Teri. The point is Teri YOU are a sensible person. Most people are not. Only about 20% of children eat enough fruit, most choose not to eat any at all, at least not fresh.

Most children live on a diet of sweets and pop and bugers and chips.. By giving the youngest children fruit, they hope that they will enjoy it and ask for more from their parents or buy it themselves, if that's how they are fed.

The year 2004 is not the start but by then all children be gaving their free fruit. There has already been a pilot scheme in two counties to see how it works. It is this sucess that has decided them to progress to the whole country. You wouldn't believe how many people never eat a piece of fresh fruit.

Even a lot of vegetarians don't eat much FRESH fruit, I know, I have spoken to them, and have successfully persuaded them to eat more fresh food, their reports back have been good.

The rich world has as you know gone mad on convenience foods, even worse than home cooked foods. I think I've said enough for now. Chris.
Guest guest
Hi guys,
frankly, I'm quite surpise with the fuss the British Gov. (BG) decision raised. Seems to me, BG read raw food premier magazine Just Eat an Apple :-). No, seriously, will it ever help an apple a day? Of course, not! Well, as a first step (hopefully!) it's not bad, but as the second one the BG must be told that school childern need rather nutrition richer vegetable than cleansing fruit. Have you considered what effect on the childern's parents will it have? I guess the parents will think the fruit is the key, the fruit is the main food. They will start giving more fresth fruit to their kids. What does it mean? They can overdose them with potasium and phosphorus or, in the other words, they can underdose them with sodium and calcium. The food one eats must be well balanced. So potasium and sodium must be in ballance. One of the sympotoms of overdosing with potasium is laziness. Hahh, doesn't the BG want the kids to be more powerful, successful? One of the symptoms of underdosing with calcium is ...yeah, tooth problems, like tooth decay or tooth sensitivness. And sympotms of booth above at the same time? Speeding up detox process acompanied with headaches and skin rushes. You know what, check up the following link, where you can find more about balancing food. I read the book and found it amazing, eye-opening.
Here we go:
http://www.midcoast.com.au/~sbrook/eco-eating.htm

Tom.
