So what's the concensus here on durian? My

co-worker found the story about it in Sunfood Diet Success

System and we've been asking some of the people in the

office about it. I haven't found any yet up in my area

but I have a lead on where I might find some.

If anyone isn't familiar with it, it's a fruit that

is supposed to taste wonderful but smells like cat

poo or dirty socks or way ripe cheese. Those are the

description we've gotten so far. & lt;G & gt;

Anyone out

there tired it?

Wakar

I've eaten it probably a couple dozen times. If

you can get past the smell (indescribable) the fruit

actually tastes very rich, kind of creamy and sweet. The

quality is not always consistent; I've had several that

weren't worth the trouble but the good ones are quite

good. It is very common around SE Asia and considered

somewhat a delicacy and relatively expensive.

The

smell is so strong, hotels, airlines etc. will not

allow you to bring it in. It permeates very large

areas. Here in the U.S. it is very rare but I have found

it occasionally at a Vietnamese store in the Dallas

metropolitan area. I've seen the fruit (separated from the

shell) and the whole fruit sold - both frozen (seems to

keep it fresh and very little smell). But watch out

when it thaws, the smell comes back. I'd recommend

trying it if you find it at least 2-3 times in case the

first one not so good. If you find the whole fruit it's

probably going to taste fresher than if its already been

packaged.
