Guest guest
Here is a fun fact. Banana trees, which are not really trees at all, put all there energy into groing up, sometimes 20-25 feet tall, produce 1 bunch of bananas, then promptly die. New shoots come up from the roots to form new trees. The strange thing is, the bananas contain no seeds. They have evolved beyond propigation by seed. there are still little specks of what used to be seeds in them, but no seeds.
Cool eh? Guest guest
Hi Doug:

I read a book once by a person whose hobby was getting exotic, tropical fruit seeds to grow in their home. This person spoke of the challenges in growing banana from seed. Rather than saying that the banana no seeds, they said the seeds were extremely small. They tried for a long time to extract some of these little " specks " from bananas, and get them to grow, with no success. Then after much effort they did get a banana tree to grow from one of the seeds. I am sure that propagation also happens in the manner you describe, but if this author wasn't making up her story, they also still have viable seeds, even if humans don't have great success starting them that way. Guest guest
Another thing about bananas, the root system stays alive after the " tree " dies, essentialy making the banana plant imortal. As they say, you are what you eat. Can you guess my favorite fruit?
Does any one know where I can get truly raw almonds for sprouting? I buy supposedly raw almonds from the health food stores, but they don't sprout.

Doug
