Re: AW: cat abuse]

Dear Anneleise,

Thank you so much!

I need your support. If I could have a formal statement of support from Animals

Asia Foundation, it would be really great!! So, please let me have your logo,

as well as the format statement. I can find someone to do the translation and

make it bilingual.

We will put it up on our banners & logos, because, FYI, we a finalizing our plan

for a protest march to be held in Jan 8, 2006 Sunday. Application is being

processed by the police.

I will send you more info about the protest asap. Also, for the protest, I am

looking for speakers to say a few important words to the assembly. If I can have

the honour of you or your colleagues at the event, it would mean a lot to the

campaign. Please feel free to share your thought.

On behalf of animals, Thank You!

David

Dear David,

The Animals Asia Foundation fully supports efforts to amend and improve the

current animal cruelty legislation in Hong Kong. We advocate the introduction of

stricter penalties to further deter potential animal abusers, in conjunction

with active enforcement and prosecution. If you would like to add a formal

statement of support from Animals Asia and / or our logo to your website, please

feel free to email me directly at any time and I would be more than happy to

help.

We wish you the very best of luck with your campaign and sincerely hope that

through our combined efforts to promote respect for all animals, we can ensure

that horrific acts of deliberate animal cruelty become a thing of the past.

Best wishes,

Anneleise Smillie

Hi Guys,

David is doing something about the awful animal abuse cases in HK and I hope

you'll all use his e-mail address from this e-mail to send him your

organizations details (plus any others you know of please cc. me too so I can

put them on my list) so that he can include you in a march he's organizing.

Can anyone send him the e-mail of the guys who organised the pets in Govt.

housing march?

Obviously he needs to get as many people to participate as possible and I

think the lack of cruelty legislation is something that upsets every one of us.

Thanks.

Warmest regards

Nikki

PS Keep up the good work David! I will send you the Humane Society DVD about

the link between animal abuse and interpersonal violence (if you wish to

translate this and use it David (or anyone else for that matter) let me know -

you'll have to say it's from HSUS but I'm sure they'd be happy for you to

educate with it) - if anyone else wants a copy send me your addresses please.

Please find our complete formal statement of support below...

" The Animals Asia Foundation fully supports efforts to amend and

improve the current animal cruelty legislation in Hong Kong. We

advocate the introduction of stricter penalties to further deter

potential animal abusers, in conjunction with active enforcement and

prosecution. The recognition of animals as sentient beings is a

powerful first step towards initiating positive changes in any

society's attitudes and encourages the development of compassion and

empathy not only towards animals, but to our fellow humans as well.

Many studies in psychology, sociology and criminology during the last

25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have

childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal

cruelty. Comprehensive animal protection is therefore a vital

component of any progressive society. We respectfully call on the

Hong Kong Government to significantly increase both monetary

penalties and jail terms, to ensure that all forms of animal abuse -

be it individual instances of cruelty, or exploitation for commercial

purposes - are tackled with the gravity they deserve. "
