Guest guest
Dear Ms Petersen and AAPN colleagues, A very comprehensive account on hunting and its relation to conservation has been discussed in the book : Wildlife Conservation by Sustainable Use edited by Herbert H T Prins, Jan Geu Grootenhuis, Thomas D Dolan(2000, Kluwer Academic Publishers) The book is available online on google print but I reckon it would take a gmail account to access it. There is also the Darwin Initiative for studying the effects of bushmeat in West Africa(www.wildcru.org/research/*darwin** initiative*.htm <http://www.wildcru.org/research/darwininitiative.htm>). This is not Asian but well worth a look since as I mentioned in my previous message, intrinsically trophy hunting and subsistence hunting tend to be disparate activities but there are overlapping areas. In Asia, trophy hunting takes place for Ibexes in Pakistan and has very seriously been discussed for Snow Leopards in China and Mongolia. People also tend to forget that ALL GUIDEBOOKS on birds are based on pictures drawn of individuals(I hesitate to use the word 'specimens') that were shot. It can be reasonably concluded that collecting animals in that manner is also a form of hunting. I would appreciate more information on this issue. Kind regards, Yours sincerely,
