Guest guest Posted November 16, 2005 Report Share Posted November 16, 2005 The Assam Tribune www.assamtribune.com Guwahati, Wednesday, November 16, 2005 NORTH EAST Mizoram bans import of birds and pigs AIZAWL, Nov 15 – Mizoram Government has imposed a ban on the import of pigs and chickens from neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh in view of the outbreak of bird flu in some countries, State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary director Dr C Sangnghina said yesterday. No sign of avian flu has been detected so far in the state and all the samples sent to the Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal had proved negative, Sangnghina said. However, strict vigil was being maintained along the 722-km-long international border with Myanmar and Bangladesh as state forest department did not rule out stray cases of migratory birds passing through the state. " State Animal Disease Emergency Committee has been formed under which district animal disease emergency committees were also formed in all the eight districts as surveillance bodies, " he said. The committees also conducted mass awareness programme among the people in their respective districts, he added. Dr C Zothankhuma of the state health department also said that training had been imparted to medical officers and staff of community health centres and primary health centres in all the districts to ensure speedy submission of reports and treatment of patients, in cases of infection. – PTI Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
