I was told of a fundraising endeavor by PETA taking place on EBAY:

People have been writing in questions to the PETA President (who is

up for auction), and PETA has been publicly responding ON the actual

auction.

I took it upon myself to use the opportunity to contact the

President directly asking if any of the funds raised in their effort

to auction off the skills of Peta's President to the highest bidder

could be used towards our efforts to end the dolphin and whale

slaughters in Japan.

I didn't get a " yes, we will donate money.. " but I did get a

response nonetheless (posted below).

What can be done to stop these drive fisheries and whale hunts?

Especially now as Japan's fisherman head off to the waters of the

Antarctic for the biggest whale kill ever (double their usual hunt)!

fleet has set sail for Antarctic waters where it will make its

biggest catch in 20 years'].

PETA response from Pres. Ingrid Newkirk follows:

" The Japan Dolphin slaughter, also known as the drive fishery, is

one of the most horrifying and disgusting spectacles I have ever

seen. It is impossible to watch the videos (taken by Sea Shepherd,

One Voice-France and Blue Voice) without bursting into tears as

Japanese fishermen herd dolphins into a small bay and hack them to

pieces with long knives as their screams fill the air and the bay

turns red with their blood. Supposedly they kill these dolphins

because the dolphins eat too many fish, but in reality the aquarium

industry has been sponsoring this drive for years as they pick out

dolphins from the catch for captivity. Remember that you are

supporting this if you go for a swim with dolphins or visit SeaWorld

or any other dolphin prison. PETA supported the Japan Dolphin Day

Protest by sending out action alerts and posting information to our

website. There are many great groups around the world working on

this issue: check out www.savetaijidolphins.org and click on the

TAKE ACTION tab. Special thanks to you brave folks in Japan who have

risked your lives to bring this to the attention of the world! "
