About 75 elephants were expected to take 'rest' in the camp at Theppakkadu, being organised by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments for the third year in a row, Forest department sources said. All arrangements, including electrified fencing, tents and shelters for mahouts, for the 48-day long camp would be completed by the middle of November, they said. Stating that different types of food articles, particularly rice and palm leaves, would be arranged to feed the pachyderms during the camp, the sources said the district administration, in consultation with the forest department and others to make the camp successful. Special treatment, including ayurveda, would be provided for the participating elephants, for which doctors from the state and neighbouring Kerala would be requisitioned, they said adding that transportation arrangements would be made to bring elephants from various parts of the state.
