Guest guest
Today we went to courts again for the sake of Kandy's dogs and got a big surprise: after having killed 360 dogs in August, claiming there is a danger of rabies spreading in Kandy, today the Municipal-Vet-Surgeon came to courts and asked for more time to file objections because he could not get the data on rabies, which the Judge had asked him to produce three weeks ago. Even the Judge looked puzzled, but he gave him another six weeks. Of course we knew, that he cannot show any solid data to justify the cruel killing spree he set up in August, but I expected, that he would somehow cook up some data, even if they would not stand later investigation, just to save his face for the moment... but instead he openly declared, that he did not have any data at all... after all this propaganda in all the local media to justify killing. Now we are really wondering what he will come up with on 5th of December. In the meantime we continue to sterilize as many dogs as we can afford. Our budget is tight. If anyone has an idea from where to raise funds to continue the Kandy ABC and possibly expand it, please share your knowledge with us. For more informations about the programme please contact us. The good news is, that the Health Ministry announced, that it has asked the local authorities, not to kill dogs until the old rabies-odinance is replaced by a new law, which will manage the rabies thread with humane methods such as mass-sterilization and vaccination. Of course the Kandy Municipal Vet claims to be unaware of such instrcutions by the Ministry, but as long as he leaves his hands off the dogs, we don't care whether he is aware or not... fortunately right now the Kandy-dogs are safe from him. But for the 360 dogs, which lost their lives in August, we still feel pain in our hearts. Thanks to everyone, who works for animal-rights and -welfare anywhere on this planet... even though we are only few today, this seed will grow and spread and make this world more kind and happy.
