Tiger parts won't improve your sex life

BY LEE YUK PENG

MALACCA: Tiger parts will not boost your sex life.

If everyone believes in the statement, there won't be a decline in the

tiger population as a result of poaching.

Malacca Zoo director Mohd Nawayai Yasak said poachers would not be

interested in hunting the tigers if there was no demand.

" There is a general belief, especially among the Chinese, that tiger

parts are good for medical reasons.

" One of them is the tiger's testicles, which people say are good for

the libido, " he said.

He was commenting on the raid by forest rangers on a house in Kampung

Mertua, Pengkalan Kubor in Kelantan, last week.

They found a Malayan tiger cut up into four parts and stored in a refrigerator.

A 22-year-old suspect was arrested in Tumpat in connection with the case.

Mohd Nawayai said some 500 Malayan tigers still roam the jungles of

Peninsular Malaysia.

He said it was hard to say when the tiger population would be wiped

out if poaching persisted.

With more land being cleared for development, he said the tigers'

habitat was shrinking, making it easier for poachers to get to them.

Mohd Nawayai said effective law enforcement, including more public

tip-offs, and increased awareness that tigers do not make exotic food

would stop the killing of tigers.

" If people, especially villagers, realise the importance of preserving

tigers, then the Malayan tiger will not become extinct, " he said.
