LEOPONS

I remember reading a book when I was very young about some special big cats

born in a zoo in Nishinomiya City, Japan. I have never heard anything more about

these creatures but the memory of the book still lingers..... The mother was a

lion and the father was a leopard. Their babies had characteristics of both.

They were spotted like their father but their spots were brown instead of black.

They felt at home in trees like leopards and the lioness had a hard time trying

to reach them when they would climb up their tree or climb up their chain link

cage. They loved to play in the water to the utter amazement of the male

leopard. The males even grew a little mane when they got older. These leopons

grew to be much larger then their father. The male leopard even stayed with the

lioness and cubs within the enclosure! I think that was very unusual! They

seemed to have thrived in this environment and all got along with each other. I

used to wonder if anymore Leopons had been born. I only know of five. If

anybody knows anything further, please contact me. To

see a picture of a leopon go here.....
