Guest guest Posted October 4, 2005 Report Share Posted October 4, 2005 Sunday October 2, 2005-The Star Guidelines issued to bird’s nest harvesters TAIPING: The North Perak Bird’s Nest Harvesters and Merchants Association has advised its members to stop using water tanks and ponds to counter the threat of dengue fever. Instead, it recommends the use of modern equipment like dehumidifiers to lower the temperature and humidity in bird's nest enclosures. This was one of the proposals outlined in the association’s “Guidelines for Bird’s Nest Operators” distributed at its second AGM here on Friday night. The guidelines are divided into three categories – “birdhouses”, “housekeeping” and “bird sounds.” Malaysian Bird’s Nest Merchants Association president Lim Theam Siew, who welcomed the new measures, urged more bird’s nest breeders to join the association. “All states have set up a bird’s nest harvesters association, and those who have yet to do so should join us so that we can work closely with the Government which will soon come up with its own set of guidelines to boost the industry,” he added.
