Guest guest
Dear friends, On Saturday night the two trucks from Karuna Society and Manju Nath reached Visakha SPCA, Visakahaptanam. The situation is worse than it looks on the pictures. Although electricity is restored in the main building, the problem is mud, destruction, polluted wells, stagnant water, broken trees , pieces of walls, dirt and filth. Motorpumps are not working and pipelines are destroyed so drinking water for animals is a problem. The first job to be done is to remove all that is destroyed. This has to be done by people who are willing to get dirty, sliding on the mud and who are strong enough to remove most of the material by hand. We brought from Puttaparti three masons but there is no dry sand available to make cement and to start reconstruction of the wells. So, all are working on the clean-up .Pradeep hired a machine to clean out the well but the motor is not working and it needs repair. Please understand that even the first basic needs BEFORE reconstruction are a problem and are a priority . The need is more with getting people who can work hands on because that is the only possible way that the ground work can be cleared before starting any reconstruction works. The work is also being very much hampered with heavy rains falling at intervals. Visakhapatnam Municipality city is not a problem with floods or animal rescue . Pradeep has been very unfortunate with so many animals being flooded and the Goshala part destroyed. The animals are in danger of getting sick. The entire place is covered with cowdung and mud that one cannot even measure the depth and thickness. Part of the animals are sleeping outside the compound on higher grounds. Although food is available now ,outside the compound a temporary shelter and drainage is needed to be setup for all of them to be dry and clean and to facilitate the reconstruction of the Goshala section . The animals need immediate vaccinations. With all the above problems there is no time to go outside to find out animals and people in need of help . As soon as the cleanup and reconstruction is on the way I and Manju Nath are going with Pradeep to find out problem areas. However the first Disaster Area is Visakhaptnam Shelter itself. ABC and treatment of animals continues but how can you function properly under these kind of circumstances. Everything is wet, the attenders are struggling in the mud and how can one keep everything clean and dry. I have read the report that Pradeep wrote before. In my opinion the real situation is worse and besides that he is overstressed because he needs to give quotations for reconstruction work and everything has to be managed at the same time which cannot be done with such a small group. He needs help immediately on trust because it is really bad. With Regards, Clementien Pauws
