Dog massacre in Guanghzou China

Dear Sirs,

We have recently heard in Greece, where I come from, about an

operation started in Guangzhou a couple of days ago concerning rabies

appearance. We, people who love animals, know that killing of dogs has

started and we would like to express our total opposition to this cruel

practice. Killing indiscriminately every dog in area won't solve the

problem apart from being a barbaric action towards animals. It is time

to think that " traditions " that result in cruelty to animals (like dog

eating) are not really traditions. Especially dog eating could result in

people's harm as well since it might transmit the virus to humans. I

can't conceive that a country with such long history and civilization

continues to apply such inhumane practices against animals even a breath

before the 2008 Olympic Games, which is something your country struggled

very hard for. Why doesn't someone bother to think that vaccination and

birth control is the only viable way to face stray animals' problem?

After all the proofs this scientific and humane practice has provided

(please take a look to the example of some places in India where this

practice was applied), it seems obvious that it is the only reasonable

and humane method to follow.

In the threshold of 2008, people around the world, especially the

ones who love animals, expect to see much better things from China. It

is to your country's honour and good reputation to stop these inhumane

practices.

Yours sincerely,

Maria Nika,

Greece
