Guest guest
Dear Kim, Chandi, Hari, Pradeep, Sherry, Brindha, , Maneka, Suparna, Chinny, Kelly, Bob, Chialee, Arun, Pat, Champa and all others, who try to save the dogs in Kandy Today I received another alarming call: they started killing again... though not in a big way like last time, it seems, otherwise we would have got more calls about it. (Actually we received only one call, but unfortunately it was a relieable one, tomorrow we'll verify to be 100% sure.) Immediately Sagarika gave another call to the Governor and one of our members phoned the Chiefminister, both claim they have no say, the other one should intervene. We don't know the set-up well enough to understand who is right here, however, even if we knew, we can't demand, we can only plead. While we prepare for the 29th, the day we have the hearing in courts, the killing may go on and we watch helplessly and what makes it worse: some people, who are missing their dogs, come to the pound and ask whether their dogs are there and we have to tell them: sorry.... So far nobody blamed us because they can see, that we are keeping our foothold on the KMC pound in order to protect the lives of those 100 dogs, which are there now, and because we hope to get the programme back in place through the court-case, which we have filed... yet fact is, that those dogs, whose owners came in search of them, could have been saved, if the pound would be operated by the KMC because then they would have kept the dogs alive for three days, though under terrible conditions... three days torture for the sake of a few, whose owners really love them. There is no question about this right now, definitely we will stay on, because on this point the court-order is very clear and so far the KMC was not violating our right to use the pound as a transithome. But it is a very sad experience for us to have to say sorry to those people and to feel their pain. If we would not win the court-case this time, we would have to re-think whether we should stay in the pound, because if they continue to kill, we will not take up the sterilization of Kandy street-dogs again and would not need a transit-home for that purpose, but then the question would arise: where to go with these 100 dogs? We still hope it will not come to such a situation, but the possibility looms heavily on our minds because we have no funds to build a shelter, we only used to get just enough to keep the programme going, the daily food for the dogs and the weekly pay for the sterilizations. Just received the letter WSPA has sent to the Health Minister, I wish he would do something, but after he got so many mails and letters from so many individuals and organisations and showed no response, I have lost hope now. However, if those of you, who are in Colombo, would try to meet him in person, we have a small chance to get some help from him... by phone he is hard to contact, mails and letters may not all be read by him personally. And those of you, who still believe in God inspite of all these terrible suffering, which animals have to undergo in this overpopulated human society, please pray for a miracle to save the dogs of Sri Lanka, who are being killed in the thousands islandwide and now even the sterilised and vaccinated ones in Kandy. Please also pray for all other species tortured and killed by the human sub-animal. Let's join our efforts to make this earth a better place to live... for all creatures.
