Guest guest
- Padma aapn Wednesday, August 31, 2005 10:16 PM ARE DOGS IN kANDY SAFE NOW ??? Today we were hoping to get an early date for the hearing, but the judge gave 29th of September, I hope they will not take up the killing again before that. It seems they only stopped because they had to return the vehicle, which had been provided by a Department from Nuwara Eliya, because the KMC-Vet.Dept's own vehicle is broken as usual. We are still looking for alternative solutions, to lobby - may be with the help of WSPA and/or HSI ?!?, if they can - not to rely on the legal process alone. Maneka Gandhi has written a very strong letter to the President of Sri Lanka, who happens to be personally known to her. I believe this letter will not be ignored by the President. We are still shaken by the terror, which has luckily ended for the moment, but we are not broken into pieces by the shock, on the contrary, we are more determined than ever to stop the killing of dogs in this island eventually. Thanks to all, who share this vision. Padma

You may have to meet reporters etc. directly and give them material that they can use, like the letters of support from different countries, succeessful ABC programmes in India and elsewhere, the recent Rabies seminar findings, statistics and anything else you can lay your hands on. If you can get a copy of the letter of Mrs. Gandhi , publish excerpts of it in the Press. Give relevant documents to all the members of the Kandy Municipal Corpn. Speak and communicate with the local population of Kandy and ask the Press to take a poll of what they would like - humane control or brutal killing, given the success rate of this programme, if conducted methodically. The Kandy issue has received world -wide attention. Try and build upon it and go on a media and public campaign onslaught. regards, Suparna Ganguly On 9/1/05, Padma <padmaeva wrote: - Padma aapn Wednesday, August 31, 2005 10:16 PM ARE DOGS IN kANDY SAFE NOW ???
