Guest guest
IPPL is looking into an unconfirmed report that reached us of three gorillas about to be shipped from Europe to Shanghai Zoo. Gorilla 1: Bokito (male western lowland, 9, born and hand-reared in Berlin). Gorilla 2: one female from Zoo Saarbruecken, Germany, Gorilla 3: one female from Rotterdam Zoo, We heard that the gorillas would be assembled at Safaripark Hodenhagen for onward shipment to Shanghai Zoo with a possible stop in Rotterdam. Does anyone know if this is correct? It's reported to be a diplomatic gift from the Netherlands to China. In general CITES discourages using protected wildlife as diplomatic gifts I looked on the AAPN web site trying to find information on Shanghai Zoo from John Wedderburn but it seems the AAPN zoo pages are down. I tried http://www.aapn.org/shanghaiphot.html but got a message saying the site was down. Has it been moved?
