Guest guest
Last minute rescue of the dogs in Kandy (Sri Lanka) Yesterday we met the Chiefminister of the Central Province and requested him to halt the killing of dogs by the municipality. He said, that he will stop the killing, but has to give a hearing to the reasons, the KMC Vet.Surgeon Dr.Jayasinghe has to give for his decision to revert to killing. So finally today we got to know, that Dr.Jayasinghe has presented some kind of documents, supposed to be from Kandy General Hospital and from Teaching Hospital Peradeniya, which state a 300% increase of rabies-dog-bites. Now we got really puzzled because recently we inquired from Kandy General Hospial and got in writing with details for each month, signed by the Director: more than 50% decrease of post-exposure-rabies vaccinations given in the last 1 1/2 years. Same tendency at Peradeniya Hospital, as Champa (KACPAW Secretary) just found out when she gave a call to the Director of the Hospital. Tomorrow the council-members will investigate the origin of the papers Dr.Jayasinghe had presented in order to frighten the council member and get their approval to kill on the spot. Will let you all know the results tomorrow. In the meantime let us all pray, that he will not commence the killing in the early morning hours before Chiefminister has a chance to call him. May all beings be happy (including Dr.Jayasinghe... because happy people can't even think of killing or harming anyone!)
