SAVE THE STRAYS IN KANDY

Dear Honorable Minister for Health,

 

It is with deep regret that I am informed about the horrible plan being schemed

in Kandy in contrast to a court decision, thousands of signatures collected from

citizens of Kandy and local politicians' warnings. It is hard to understand that

only one corrupted man is given the permission to ignore all these things,

thinking that he is some kind of evil God. For God's sake!!

It is repeatedly proven that street dogs population management is possible only

through adopting The Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies vaccination. In Kandy

a successful mass sterilisation and vaccination has been in place over the last

three years. Over 5000 dogs have been sterilised and vaccinated by a group of

dedicated people, the costs of which are funded mainly by foreign donations. And

it is a stark reminder that the neuter / spay programme is directly related to

human health salvation though the problem lies with the human expansions and the

terribe open garbage system. On the other hand there is this " scientist " who has

done everything in his power to undermine and destroy the people who are trying

to use humane methods to control the strays. It beggars belief the lengths this

man has pursued to wreck the programme and resume the killing sprees. Ironically

many of the dogs he wants to kill are sterilised and vaccinated. On top of all

these, he ignores the laws and spreads around the world the worst reputation for

your country.

 

Kandy is the centre of Buddhism in a country that unfortunately is known as one

of the brutal places on earth for animals as systematically gasses, electrocutes

and poisons innocent dogs on mass scales. However it is known as well that

serious efforts are made in order these methods to stop. Also it is widely known

that important efforts are carried out concerning the protection of wildlife in

your country. We know it is a difficult work to do but this is the best for

animals and for humans, too.

 

By adopting these illegal killings of stray dogs , the Municipal Vet from Kandy

is jeopardising the entire efforts being done by many international

organisations to set in place the dog problems especially after the Tsunami

effects and above all there is immense cooperation from the entire human

population. Kandy is a showpiece and something Sri Lanka can be proud of.

I am dismayed to hear that the Mayor of Kandy is also implicated in this bloody

business. It is a shame he has been persuaded of such irrational and barbaric

methods.

 

The world is watching Sri Lanka and expects from you to do the needful at the

earliest. Don't let one corrupted man stigmatize your whole nation as animal

murderers. Animal lovers all over the world are on your side if you make the

right decision.
