Blasting at Behora,Bokakhat Golaghat Assam(Kaziranga

NP),injuring a lot of wild elephants

Dear Kim and All,

Continuous blasting near Behora Tea Estate

of Bokakhat, Golaghat dist. near the Kaziranga National Park, where

wild elephants roam about freely is causing the animals to flee to

and fro and thus disturbing the people of the area due to stress and

fear. One elephant cub fell into a ditch while running to safety from

the blasting site and died a very pathetic death, two ijnjured

elephants hit by bulldozers with fractured legs are found to limp

their way near the tea estates without any treatment wailing at times

so loud thatnit becomes unbearable , I approached the forest people

but they seem to shift the responsibility from one person to another.

The deeply forested hill comprises a large area and is the habitat of

a large number of elephants that roam about freely and most of them

walk to and from the National park..The Government is planning to

construct a railway line acrossd the area ,I mean to say the entire

hill, this is going to totally damage the habitat of the elephants

and lead them them to their death. The man elephant conflict will be

on the increase if this blasting persists. Please write to the Prime

Minister of India, and the Chief Minister of Assam, Dispur Assam.

phone no;- 0361 2262781, 0361 2262069, 3360489.

Hi, dear friends

I read about your government's plan in the e-mail and I would like

to write to the relevant people you mention. Since no e-mail account of

theirs is included, I'm sending you my letter with hope that you promote

it to Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Assam, Dispur

Assam or wherever else needed.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Sirs,

The last months I have been watching through animal welfare

organisations' mailing lists several efforts carried out by your country

in order to protect animals and promote their welfare and I must say I am very

happy and proud to see so. Although I am not a citizen of your country, it makes

me very content to know that a country with such a long history and tradition,

whose religion and ethics are all about peaceful coexistence between human and

all other creatures, finally finds its way to animals' welfare. Your country

owns the unique privilege to have this magnificent nature with all these

beautiful and loveable creatures which deserve your attention and protection.

Unfortunately, due to the tramendous human expansion on the face of the Earth,

animals are obliged to leave their natural habitats which cause great stress to

them and many times leads them to extinction.

As civilized people who have proved to care about our vulnerable

friends who are in need of our help, please reconsider the plan of the railway

construction which is going to totally damage the habitat of the elephants and

lead them to their death. They are already in a very difficult position because

of their territory shrinkage which urges them to wander in fear and stress. I am

sure there are better and more viable for the animals ways to promote the

region's development and serve local populations. More National parks and better

management to the existing ones offer great solutions for human and animals as

well. Don't lead these poor, harmless animals to destruction.

Sincerely yours,

Maria Nika,

Greece
