Secretary,

Animal Welfare Board of India,

Chennai.

Violation of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960(Performing

Animals Rules) in Film Mangal Pandey-The Rising.

It is understood that shooting of the above said film had been done after

getting the necessary registration for performance, exhibition and training of

Animals in the film, as per Performing Animals Rules 2001 under Prevention of

Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.

The film has vastly displayed horses, elephants, Snakes and a Monkey. As per

Govt. of India Notification dated 14.10.1998,five wild animals namely Lions,

Tigers, Bears, Monkeys and Panther, can not be exhibited, trained or performed.

So displaying Monkey is a clear-cut Violation of Sec. 22 of Prevention of

Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.It is hereby informed that Registration for

performance of a monkey was cancelled and withdrawn by the AWBI, when this

discrepancy was brought to the notice of House by undersigned during an

executive Committee meeting.

Suitable Action may be taken against violators and the scenes showing Monkey

should be withdrawn from film.

Hoping a prompt action.
