They are mainly the national priority protected species. This shows that evident results have been achieved in strengthening the measures for the protection of wild animals, reports the overseas edition of People's Daily on August 16. There are a number of 252 wildlife animal species with the most concerns in China, of them, 55.7 per cent are on stable rise, said Zhao Xuemin, deputy director of the State Forestry Administration. For example, he added, there were seven crested ibises found in 1981, and now there have been more than 740; the number of Hainan Eld's deer has increased from100 to more than 300; the number of Guizhou golden monkeys from 700 to more than 750; the number of black-necked cranes from more than 4,000 in 1980s to more than 7,000. In addition, there has been a rapid growth in the number of rare and endangered wild animal species, including Asian elephant, Tibet antelope, takin, golden monkey, argali, blue sheep, wild ass and goitred gazelle.
