Since my email regarding Australian Natives in Overseas zoos I have had a few

emails regarding the sale of wallabies in pet shops. These complaints are always

in regards to wallabies being sold in Asian pet shops.

I have had this complaint before and there are problems with wallabies. In the

last complaint I took to the Australian Government I was advised that the photo

the person had sent me was not clear enough to identify the species of wallaby.

On the map, just above Australia, there is a land mass of which one part is

Papua New Guinea and the other half is Irian Jaya. This land mass was once part

of Australia as Gondwana Land.

Irian Jaya also has wallabies. Irian Jaya is part of Indonesia. Irian Jaya does

not have the large kangaroos but does have some species of the smaller wallaby.

I am happy to take any complaint regarding our native animals to the government

but the species must be indentified first. So that means taking very clear

photos with markings clear in the photos.

If it is a wallaby from Indonesia the Australian government will not interfere

but I am sure one of the Indonesian groups may be interested.

I am willing to help. I love our native animals but we must have proof before we

go to the government that when it comes to wallabies that it is an Australian

species of wallaby.
