GEN. SECRETARY: Dear Animal People, On July 26th Mumbai, Thane & Raigad district witnessed the horror of excess rainfall as devastating floods took place. Trains came to a stand still, electricity went off , and schools & colleges were closed. Landslides took a heavy toll on human and animal lives. More then 400 people died while thousands of animals died of neglect in floods. In our neighboring Kalyan more then 600 Buffaloes died due to floods. PAWS took initiative to help calves especially as they are the most neglected by owners. Every alternate day after the flood , PAWS team treated stray animals as well as buffaloes in stables. We gave first aid to more then 70 animals per day and collected fresh vegetable leaves, dry grass etc to feed the animals every alternate day there. PAWS is thankful to its young team members Sonali Bagde, Shiv Prasad Phadke & Vishal Kantharia who really did a great job during relief operations. They spent more then 6 hours a day –without food and water, treating and feeding distressed animals . We are also grateful to our 22 year old Driver Kishore who collected all leftover vegetables and leaves from markets in heavy rains to feed the cattle.. All our volunteers, members, vets are working tirelessly in heavy rains to help animals affected by floods. I also thank PETA, ALAS, WILDLIFE S.O.S., BSPCA & WSPA for their unflinching support in our efforts. Yours for Animals, Nilesh Bhanage – Gen. Secretary & Founder Trustee ..................................................... 2. DONATION RECEIVED IN KIND: ## On 15th of July, we received a call from Pedigree Thane distributor that some of pedigree packets are opened and broken and needed to be given away . PAWS ambulance picked up 300kg of Pedigree Food from Thane. Since PAWS does not have its own shelter for dogs, we decided to give it away to the different NGO’s who work along with us. We gave away 2 big boxes to IDA – who treat and sterilize our dogs and cats regularly, 5 boxes were given away to Thane SPCA who hospitalize most of the PAWS’ cases, 1 box was given to Voice of Animals in Distress, New Bombay who had requested us for food. ## We thank Ms. Poornima Balan for donating 30kgs.of rice and one gunny bag full of Marie Gold Biscuits on 24th July which we gave to Thane SPCA. Poornima has confirmed that she will keep up her donation every month and has set an example for others to follow. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' 3.
