Thank you for your email informing us of the tragic death of Shri Bhu Dev Chakroborty (41), a forest guard of the Orang National Park, who was killed by a tiger inside the park. WPSI would like to offer Shri Bhu Dev's widow a cheque of Rs.10,000/- to tide her over these difficult times. Please could you send us the details, including Shri Bhu Dev Chakroborty's wife's name, and where the demand draft should be payable. The incident took place when Bhu Dev Chakraborty along with game watcher Ratneswar Deka and casual employee Md Jalal went out for night patrolling on foot from Bali forest camp to Hati forest camp along the river Dhansiri on the western part of the park. At about 10.45 p.m., a Royal Bengal Tiger suddenly attacked Chakraborty and severely injured him. His colleagues opened fire in the air and taken him back to Bali camp where he succumbed to his injuries. After postmortem at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital, the body was brought to the office of the DFO (Wild Life) here to pay last respect to the departed soul. Chakraborty, father of two minor children of village Teliapara under Dhupdhara Police Station in Goalpara district, had joined the service in 1985. Senior officials of State Wildlife Department and the staff of the Assam Forest School at Jalukbari offered floral wreath at the body of the departed soul. It may be mentioned that late Chakraborty joined his duty on the previous day of the incident after availing leave to attend the adya shraddha of his father.
