GANGTOK, July 7 (PTI)

A man called Kishor Chettri has been arrested for possessing three

sets of rhino horns from Singtam about 25 km from here.

Chettri was picked up after Singtam police conducted raids at his

residence late last evening and recovered three complete sets of rhino

horns from his bedroom, officer-in charge, Singtam police station

Solomon Rai said.

The police arrested on a tip-off that a man possessing rhino horns at

Singtam was looking for buyers, he said.

Thoughhe did not rule out the possibility of Chettri being part of a

larger nexus of poachers and smugglers, Rai said a clear picture would

emerge only after Chettri was interrogated further.

Trade in rhino horns which are costlier that gold in international

black markets is banned under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
