PETA India Kids Superstar:Jyoti

Thousands of kids all over the planet are joining PETA's army of

animal advocates and here is where we shine the spotlight on their

hard work. We know you do it because you care about animals, and it

is OK to brag a little about the ways you are making the world a

better place for our animal friends. Tell us how you help animals,

and you could be our featured Superstar of the Month!

One morning, when Azam Siddiqui went into his garden, he found two

small kittens mewing away. He named them Blacky and Bushy and took

them inside to give them something to eat. He noticed that both

kittens were in very bad health and had trouble opening their eyes.

In fact, Bushy seemed to be blind, as her eyes were so swollen that

she could not see at all and needed the assistance of Blacky to find

her way around.

Azam knew that he could not devote the kind of time the kittens

needed to get well, so he gave them for adoption to Jyoti, who is a

first-year veterinary student. Jyoti had to hide the kittens in her

bathroom, as her father did not want her to bring them in. She took

them to the veterinarian immediately and was told that both the

kittens had very bad conjunctivitis and were very sick with worms.

She started their treatment diligently. They were so small that they

could not eat on their own, and Jyoti had to feed them with a

syringe. This was very hard, as cats are difficult animals to

handle, but she persevered.

Unfortunately, Blacky did not survive, even though everyone tried

very hard to save her, but Bushy got better, and today she has

recovered completely from her eye infection and is very naughty.

Now, she is no longer kept hidden in the bathroom ?she's the

constant companion of Jyoti's father, who is retired and so is at

home all day!

Jyoti is truly a superstar for her animal friends! Now, how about

you? Are you a superstar for animals? Do you know someone who is? We

want to know!
