During the raids, 64 mammals, 19 reptiles and 31 birds were seized, said its general manager Sani Bakar, who led a team comprising Sapu officers, police and veterinarians. Sani said that among the wildlife seized were four Bornean Gibbons (locally known as wakwak), two hornbills and silvered langurs, all of which are “totally protected species”. “The Bornean Gibbons, which are classified as totally protected species, are very distinctive in the wild not only by their looks but by their magnificent melancholy calls that resonate across our forest,” he said in a statement. Also seized were sun bears, binturong, deer, a leopard cat, otters, cobras, pythons, flying foxes, eagles and several other animals of protected species, he said. – Bernama <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2004 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
