He said the 42.5ha zoo still had about 30% of land to be developed and it was hoping that its request for an allocation of RM150mil would be approved under the Ninth Malaysian Plan. & #147;We hope to improve the public amenities & #150; perhaps providing a canopy walk and such in the safari area which we expect to build in the 30% of land yet to be developed, & #148; said Dr Mohd Ngah. He also said that if all went well, Malaysia would, for the first time, play host to the International Zoo Convention in September 2007, where issues of recreation, education, conservation and research would be discussed. He was speaking at a press conference after a cheque presentation yesterday by HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd. HSBC donated RM100,000 for the maintenance and upkeep of the zoo & #146;s seven Sun Bears and three Brown Bears. & #147;This sum is the biggest-ever sponsorship received from one organisation and we deeply appreciate it, & #148; said Zoo Negara chairman Datuk Ismail Hutson. HSBC deputy chairman and chief executive officer Zarir J. Cama said it was important to help preserve the flora and fauna, and to sustain the environment. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2004 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
