Lim Chuan Kim, 22, a worker of Tak Sai Trading, was fined RM1,500 yesterday under the Protection of Wildlife Act after he pleaded guilty to possessing the snakes and RM1,000 for buying them from an illegal trader. In mitigation, his counsel K. Govindaraju told magistrate Elsie Primus that Lim was employed by a licensed holder and therefore entitled to handle the snakes. “The snakes are not entirely protected as those who have a licence can trade in the animal,” he said. Lim, from Penang, was found transporting the snakes in a lorry without valid documents by the state Wildlife and National Parks Department along the Ayer Keroh Highway at 10am on May 19. He settled the fine. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2004 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
