Residents losing sleep after visits from wild boars

PENANG: Residents of Lorong Air Terjun have been suffering from sleepless nights

for the past month, no thanks to noisy nocturnal “visitors” – a group of wild

boars.

 

Broken flowerpots and uprooted banana trees are among the damage the boars

leave behind after their visits.

 

 

 

Resident Jeorge Subramaniam, 56, said the creatures would come to his backyard

at 11pm and stay on till about 6am.

 

“We can’t sleep as my dog would bark incessantly throughout the night. They are

Just like bulldozers; they have uprooted six of our banana trees,” said the

aerobics instructor yesterday.

 

“As I used to shoot these animals in Langkawi years ago, I know they dislike

being near humans,” said Jeorge.

 

“Thus, we don’t understand why these animals are now coming out from the jungle

to our house,” he said, adding that they had been staying there since the 1950s.

 

His neighbour Mohamad Abdullah, 55, said the boars had even injured the leg of

one of his three dogs during a fight.

 

“We fear they may enter our houses next,” he said, adding that his flowerpots

were also destroyed by these animals.
