Review Shah Alam ban on Rottweilers

I READ with sadness the Shah Alam City Council's decision to ban the keeping of

several breeds of dogs from January next year.

One of these breeds is the Rottweiler, a common pet with Malaysian families.

I earnestly hope the Datuk Bandar would reconsider the ban as this essentially

reflects the lack of forward thinking.

Many would agree that the ban on Rottweilers in Shah Alam would break many

hearts, especially that of the children.

A dog is more than a gatekeeper, it is also the family pet.

Therefore, can we imagine the pain of every member of the family when we have

to break the news that “come tomorrow we will have to take Rocky away”?

This is tantamount to informing the family of the impending death of a family

member.

This is how my family felt when I informed them that one day very soon, Rocky

would have to go when he is still healthy, strong and obedient.

Because of one irresponsible dog owner, Rottweilers have been banned in Shah

Alam, a progressive city in one the most rapidly growing states in the country.

The most practical solution would be to emulate the Subang Jaya Municial

Council where prospective owners have to undergo training on dog management and

sit for the necessary tests to ensure they understand fully their

responsibilities to their neighbours and the general public.

CLEAR THINKER,

Shah Alam.
