Its president S.M. Mohd Idris said he was puzzled by the move, purportedly to control the population of the reptiles. “Has the department carried out any survey?” he asked in a press statement. He expressed concern that “over hunting” of snakes would have an adverse impact on the environment. “The department should realise that snakes are an important component of our eco-system due to their role as predator and prey. “Many species of snakes are on the decline due to deforestation, pollution, and urbanisation,” he added. <p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2004 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
