I am writing in support of my sister-in-law who keeps dogs as pets. What has transpired in recent months is sad. Sad for people like my sister-in-law who is married but does not have any children. She keeps dogs. To her they are more than pets, they are her children. She stays in an intermediate terrace house in Shah Alam. To read news that she can no longer keep dogs has devastated her. She has not stopped crying since. I appeal to the Shah Alam City Council to consider the following points: Please allow existing dog owners to keep their dogs. Please do not ban dogs in intermediate terrace houses. If my sister-in-law had known there was such a ruling, she would never have bought a house here a year ago. If she knew she could not have her family of dogs with her, she would have opted for a house in Bandar Utama, which was her other option. None of her neighbours who keep dogs are aware of this ruling. Our housing estate has at least three dogs per row of houses, intermediate or not. Are my sister-in-law and all other dog owners supposed to dispose of their dogs or put them to sleep? We need to find better solutions that work. I keep pets and my family loves them. Our pets are a part of our family too. I cannot imagine letting them go. That is why I am making this appeal on behalf of my sister-in-law. Jail terms and stiff fines must be imposed on irresponsible dog owners. My sister-in-law loves her dogs and treats them well. That is why all her dogs have excellent temperament. Irresponsible dog owners who chain or cage their dogs 24 hours a day are breeding bad dogs. If I were confined all day long, I would be bad-tempered too. Proper high-walled fencing must be made compulsory for dog owners. Children will be children and they will tease the dogs from the gate, so owners must ensure high gates and high fencing. Dog owners must pick up after their dogs and dispose of their faeces properly. I agree with no walking of dogs in public parks. These are guidelines that respect the rights of all parties. Lastly, to all the police dogs, rescue dogs during natural disasters, the dogs which help the disabled, blind and sick, I thank and salute you. A Muslim man who has to speak out, Shah Alam<p> ________________________ Your one-stop information portal: The Star Online http://thestar.com.my http://biz.thestar.com.my http://classifieds.thestar.com.my http://cards.thestar.com.my http://search.thestar.com.my http://star-motoring.com http://star-space.com http://star-jobs.com http://star-ecentral.com http://star-techcentral.com 1995-2004 Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd.
